Knowledge Base: How do i add or edit an image or file?

Images and files can be added to your site and managed in two key ways.

The “Files & Images” tab...

This tab can be found within any main content editing form that permits attached assets. When you click this tab, a number of slots will appear in which files and/or images can be added.

To add an asset in this way, click one of the available slots and an asset chooser will appear as shown in the image to the right.
In this chooser you can either upload a brand new file, or select an existing file from your repository.
Once you have selected a file or found one to upload, press the OK button an the asset will be attached to the content you are editing.

Please note that from within the files & images tab you can press the trash icon to remove an asset from a slot. This will unattach the file or image, but will not delete the asset from your repository, meaning the asset will remain on any other items that it may be attached to.

Next to the trash icon is a pen icon. Clicking this button will allow you to set an optional caption and url for your asset. The caption, in the case of images, will usually be used as the alt tag for your image, which acts as alternative content for users who cannot view or see your image. The URL option can be used to link to another page from your image.

The asset management section

The asset management section of the LabelEd administration area allows you to manage all of your assets in full.

First click on an asset type in the left-hand navigation. The types of assets you have will depend upon the configuration of your site, but commonly you will have at least a section for Images and a section for Files.

Next you will see a listing very similar to any of your other item listings. Find or search for an asset here, and click the edit or remove button depending on the action you would like to take.

Please note that removing an asset from this section will remove it entirely from your system and from any items that it may be attached to.

From the edit screen you can set optional information, again depending on the configuration of your site, but typically there is an optional name for the asset and some search tags if your website front-end features a search for images and files, etc.

You can also upload a new version of your asset, or roll back to an earlier version from this screen. Updating an asset from here has the advantage that any items which link to this asset will be updated as well.

For multi language sites you can also upload different versions of this asset for different languages. Please see the assets and multiple languages article for more help with this.
